Robert Restaurant, named after the event planner for the rich and famous, Robert Isabell, is located on the 8th floor of the Museum of Art and Design (MAD) overlooking Central Park West and Columbus Circle. With all the great restaurants in the area, Robert definitely helds its own.

Robert’s has an “L” shaped space combined with a very modern and futuristic décor. The interior is filled with funky colorful dining room fixtures and neon lights that hang above in stylish linear designs. The floor to ceiling glass windows aid your incredible view of Columbus Circle and Central Park West. Near the entrance sits a sleek black grand piano from which you are treated to pleasing jazz music Wednesday through Thursday nights from 8PM to 11PM.

I came here twice, first for dinner and then for brunch. Both times I had a great experience. The service and food was very good. When I came for dinner I had the sashimi of wild striped bass citrus and soy for an appetizer and Pan Roasted Hake with wild mushroom and fingerling potatoes for my entrée, they were both very tasty. For dessert, my waiter recommended the Bombolini – very light mini donuts (holes) filled with ricotta cheese and dusted with powdered sugar. The waiter was right on point, the Bombolini was delicious. For brunch, you can’t go wrong with a $29 pre-fixe selection. The dinner entrees will run you on average between $25-$30 pretty normal for the city dining scene. The portions are very descent and will certainly leave you satisfied.

This is a great looking restaurant with a pleasant atmosphere and very attentive and knowledgeable servers. Robert’s only drawback is that it lacks a bar which would be ideal for diners who are waiting to be seated or waiting for their parties to arrive. When making reservation be sure to request a window table overlooking Central Park West for the ultimate dining experience.

Getting to the Mad46 Lounge at the top of the Roosevelt Hotel is a mini adventure. After entering the elegance of the Roosevelt you are then directed by a security guard to walk through a dark corridor which leads to an elevator that takes you to your 19th floor destination. Once you exit the elevator you’re back in elegance – the Mad46 Lounge.

It was a great summer’s day and a perfect place for my friends and me to go and unwind after work. The lounge runs around the entire length of the Roosevelt’s roof. The majority of the space is outdoors and at the center is an indoor lounge that looks like a typical NYC lounge. The overall look is old meets new, 20th century architecture against modern cabanas and modern decor. You will enjoy the rooftop views as you are surrounded by other fabulous New York City buildings.

The drinks are pretty good, our server recommended the Lenart (Xante pear liqueur, sprite and fresh lime juice.) The Lenart was flavorful and sweet, just how I like my drinks. Prices are pretty much average $13-$15 for cocktails.

Neither chic nor trendy, Mad46 is great for a group of friends who want to hang out after work or just catch up. You may also meet a new a friend or two along the way. The crowd is pretty much the midtown afterwork crowd. It empties out after 7:30 PM. The service is amazing from the security downstairs to the server at the lounge.

Mad46 is a cool spot for kicking back and relaxing on the cabanas with some friends or colleagues after a long day of work. I plan to return.

I heard about the Bookmarks Rooftop Lounge from a friend but I had no idea what to expect. When I finally arrived, I was pleasantly surprised and very impressed with this cozy and classy spot. Bookmarks Rooftop Lounge, located at the top of the Library Hotel, is just the right size – neither too big and impersonal nor too small and intrusive. The ambience and décor are both simple and snug almost like a private library in one’s home, but with hints of subdued luxury.

When I arrived at the Bookmarks with my guests, we were seated at the section of the lounge that was enclosed with plexiglass, the Enclosed Terrance.  Our area was cozy with exposed brick and dark brown wooden panels. We sat on cool wooden benches lined with soft pillows. Huge potted plants with rich green foliage were both décor and subtle dividers between guests allowing for a private yet connected feel. The opposite end of the rooftop, The Poetry Garden, was completely outdoors, garden-like and a little more intimate than the Enclosed Terrance. There was also an indoor section of the lounge, The Writer’s Den, that was dimly lit with dark comfy leather furniture.

Now most importantly, the drinks – yes they were on point. The names of cocktails were literarily inspired .I had the “Underneath the Mango Tree” which was recommended by our server. It was sweet and very tasty, I couldn’t taste the liquor at all, but it was definitely there.

As the night fell, the dim lights and the candle lit table made this cozy intimate spot romantic. There was also music softly playing in the background which added to the romance. This place is a definite date spot especially when it gets dark.

Overall The Bookmarks Rooftop Lounge is highly recommended; a great place to relax on your own, have drinks with a small group or take someone out for a romantic evening.

Located in the heart of Tribeca, Megu is an elegant and exotic restaurant that I would classify as semi trendy, one of hot places to be. Megu wowed me with its slick interior combining modern with traditional Japanese. The chairs, tables and wall units were more or less modern, whereas the Japanese flag, a huge ancient looking bell suspended above an awesome Buddha ice sculpture (the restaurant’s center piece) were among the ancient touches.

My first stop at Megu was the bar or the “M Lounge,” there I had a drink while waiting for my friend. The M Lounge is pretty cool with very dim lighting and walls decorated with Japanese wallpaper (rolls of wallpaper of various designs encased in a glass.) A side section of the M Lounge allows you to view the main dinning room below through a huge glass partition, a great view. While at the bar I had Megu’s signature cocktail called “Blessing” – ”Megu” is the Japanese word for “Blessing.”I was blessed by the taste: Russian Standard, strawberry, and pomegranate juice, a rich strawberry/pomegranate taste, slightly sweet and mildly tart with a zing – yummy. Definitely Bless yourself at the M Lounge.

When my friend arrived and we got to the main dining hall, we were amazed by the ice Buddha up-close. Glowing from the light reflected around it and seemingly hovering above its watery seat filled with red rose petals, you get the feeling that the spirit of the Buddha is alive.

While waiting for our food we noticed a lively group behind us who at closer inspection we realized were members of City Council, of course Megu is often visited by celebrities, political figures and the like.

Megu lived up to the hype when it came to its high-end modern Japanese cuisine – the food was great!!! I began with Madai oriental salad, and then followed with Silver cod for the entree, and finally the Matcha Greentea Crepe for dessert. Everything was delicious especially the cod which was incredibly soft and flavorful. My friend started with sautéed scallops, and then had the Kobe beef for the entrée and finished with chocolate cake for desert. My friend raved about everything. The Kobe beef served on a bed of stone was everything it was supposed to be, the tenderest, smoothest and most appetizing meat you will every sink your teeth into.

The serving sizes are very small, but if you order a three course meal, at the end you will be satisfied but not full. Hardy eaters with homegrown stomachs may have to get some pre or post eats…lol. Appetizers are about $15-$30, entrees will run about $30 and up, and drinks are $17 up depending on how high-end you want to go. It’s pricey but worth the experience.

Before you leave Megu make sure you pour water on the ice Buddha and make a wish or say a prayer. Overall I highly recommend Megu, food and ambiance are great for impressing a date or a client.

The Top of the Standard” or aka “The Boom Boom Room (BBR),” is my favorite bar in NYC. Located on the 18th floor of The Standard Hotel, the nearly mile high windows ensure breathtaking panoramic views of Manhattan, the Hudson River and Jersey. You’re further sucked into the scene with live jazz music as plush and enticing as the made-for-royalty décor. Slowly sip on a glass of wine while taking it all in and Boom-Boom-Boom you’ve been transported to higher ground.

A definite place to take a date for some drinks or to serve as an ice breaker before heading to dinner at any of the near by trendy restaurants. It’s equally appropriate for a small group of friends or for impressing a business client.

As with any gorgeous “boom boom,” you have to pay to play. Drinks are pricier than average, a lesser expensive glass of wine will run between $15-$30. And the food is equally pricy. If you need to eat, make reservations at one of the trendy restaurants in the area.

For guaranteed seating I recommend calling ahead for reservations. An 18 percent gratuity is automatically added to the bill with reservations. And while you’re there make sure you tinkle. One of the best bathrooms I’ve seen so far in NYC: I call it urinating with a view.

But time is of the essence! Try to go there while you still can, according to Page Six of the NY Post “…the Boom Boom Room is one step closer to going private. The hotel…..changed its liquor license from a public space to a private one” (article), meaning it will soon become members only. Again, get there while you still can!!!

The Rare View has become one of my favorite roof top bars, it totally exceeded my expectations. Its very trendy, has a relaxed atmosphere and has a great view of the Empire State Building and surrounding skyscrapers. The red and yellow striped cushions on black wicker sofas gave the place a fashionable look. The size is very descent, it’s like a larger version of The Top of Strand. Also just like The Top of Strand, the Rare View has a retractable roof making the place available rain or shine.

The drinks are very reasonable for NYC rooftop bars: $12 specialty cocktails, $8 beers and $9 wines  a bargain for place like this. The only knock I have on this place is you cannot order food, the bar is only for drinking. You can’t even order from the restaurant downstairs and bring the food up. Overall The Rare View is a great place and I highly recommend it. I came here with a couple of friends and had a great time.
